1. 12 apartments a total loss after fire in Blacksburg; cause still under investigation (wset.com) — A fire at Fox Ridge Apartments in Blacksburg has left 12 units destroyed and 24 total units affected, with some residents now able to return. Others remain displaced and are being housed temporarily at a nearby hotel, with support available through Foxridge staff, the Red Cross, and Virginia Tech’s Dean of Students Office.
   

2. VDOT seeks input on study alternatives for Prices Fork Road project (montcova.com) — If you drive, bike, or walk along Prices Fork Road into Blacksburg, VDOT wants your input right now on possible safety and accessibility upgrades. An online survey open through December 22 will help shape future funding requests and long-term improvements between McCoy Road and North Main Street, in partnership with Montgomery County and the Town of Blacksburg.
   

3. Tuesdays of Honor: Wayne Fenton (wdbj7.com) — A Blacksburg Vietnam veteran, Wayne Fenton, is being recognized for his service and recovery from malaria during two years overseas. Now thriving with his family, he’s featured in a weekly “Tuesdays of Honor” segment that invites viewers to submit stories of other local veterans to be celebrated in future installments.
   

4. Golf, cross country all-state teams (montcova.com) — Blacksburg High School athletes just earned all-state honors in both golf and cross country, putting local talent in the statewide spotlight. Cameron Sharpe, Jack Skinner and Seth Alba were recognized in golf, while River Matthews, Asher Roach, Benjamin Bailey and Miles Wilson made the all-state cross country list alongside standout runners and golfers from neighboring NRV schools.

Concerns raised about ‘forever chemicals' in data centers (southernmarylandchronicle.com) — Virginia Tech’s data center in Blacksburg is among many facilities nationwide that rely on hardware and cooling systems containing PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” raising questions about long-term environmental and health impacts. The piece explains how data centers dispose of PFAS-laden equipment, the gaps in regulation, and emerging efforts to find safer alternatives while keeping powerful servers running.
