WEST SPRINGFIELD, VA — A 28-year-old middle school teacher from Springfield faces two felony charges of possession of child pornography, according to a Fairfax County Police Department release.

At the time of her arrest, Kristine Knizner was employed by Fairfax County Public Schools as a teacher at Irving Middle School in Springfield. She had previously been a teacher at Key Middle School in Franconia. The victims do not appear to be related to Knizner's employment, police say.

Detectives from the Major Crimes Bureau’s Cyber/Child Exploitation Squad began their investigation on May 17, after they received a CyberTip from National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, according to the release. A Snapchat account associated with a Fairfax County IP address was in possession of child sexual abuse material, according to the tip.

Detectives linked the IP address to an apartment in the 6800 block of Meteor Place in Springfield. After executing a search warrant, detectives ascertained that Knizner was the sole occupant of the apartment.

Charging Knizner with two counts of possession of child pornography, they took her to the Adult Detention. She was later released on a $2,000 unsecured bond.
