Fairfax Man Charged With Hit-And-Run After Hitting Woman, Dogs: Police

A 27-year-old man was charged with felony hit-and-run, in connection with a crash Monday evening in the Kings Park West area.

BURKE, VA — A Fairfax County man was charged with felony hit-and-run in connection with a crash Monday evening in the Kings Park West area where he hit a woman who was walking her two dogs, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The woman, 53, remains in the hospital in critical condition. One of the woman’s dogs died at the scene, police said. The other dog suffered serious injuries.

Travis Hicks, 27, was traveling westbound on Wheatstone Drive in a 2017 Honda Accord when he ran a stop sign at Gainsborough Drive and kept on driving, striking the woman and her dogs, who were on the sidewalk, according to police.

Hicks continued driving into the Kings Ridge Swim Club, causing extensive property damage to the community pool area, police said. Hicks then left the Kings Ridge Swim Club area, “passing the victim” as he drove out, and then was found in a nearby parking lot with the assistance of community members.

Witnesses told NBC4 that after crashing into the woman and her dogs and leaving the Kings Ridge Swim Club in his car, Hicks started doing donuts in a parking lot near Robinson Secondary School, a few blocks away from the crash.

The woman's other dog remains in critical condition. Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter is asking for financial support to treat Bruno, the surviving dog.

"Bruno was in shock after the incident, suffering from a fracture, swelling, and multiple abrasions," the Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter said on its Facebook page. "He is being treated around the clock for his injuries and we are extremely hopeful that he will pull through."
