UPDATE: Police Identify Victim of Fatal Hit and Run in Burke
Police shut down Shiplett Boulevard Thursday night after a man was hit and killed by a car that fled the scene, according to police.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- A 33-year old man was struck and killed by a car that fled the scene in Burke Thursday night, according to Fairfax County Police
Police identified the victim as Matthew Calendine, of Burke; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The striking vehicle was described as a dark-colored sedan, possibly a black Toyota or Honda. Speed does not appear to be factor at this time, police said. Detectives are investigating whether alcohol was a contributing factor. The Officer of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of death.

Police shut down Shiplett Boulevard at Capella Avenue in both directions shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
A crash reconstruction team of detectives was on the scene for several hours.

Witnesses told police the man stumbled into the roadway, where one car traveling eastbound swerved and missed him, but a second car hit him, police said. Witnesses said the car that struck the man appeared to pause for a moment before moving on.
Police say bystanders tried to render aid and called 9-1-1.
