Irish Dance Champion Shows Strength Of Character: Burke Star Student

BURKE, VA — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Corazon Sandoval Foley, who nominated Ciara, her 11-year-old granddaughter who lives in Burke. Ciara is an outstanding Irish Dance Champion and top student at Nativity Catholic School.

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Ciara is a very kind and respectful student who gets good grades at her Nativity Catholic School — and she is an outstanding Irish Dance Champion, following on the family tradition with her mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who were all Irish Dance Champions. Ciara Kathleen has been working so hard, enduring blisters on her feet, tired legs and body, to perfect the demanding Irish Dancing skill. And while spending a lot of time dancing in practice and in numerous competitions, Ciara has worked hard on her school work for she loves math and history — and of course, she enjoys playing with her friends and singing/acting in school plays, including the Nativity Christmas pageant. The Burke Patch featured Ciara's Irish Dance accomplishment.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Strength of character in competition and kindness.
