Man Armed With Gun, Chainsaws, Axe, And Blowtorch Shot By Police: Report

A Burke man reportedly armed with a gun, chainsaws, an axe, and a blowtorch was shot by Fairfax County police Sunday night.

BURKE, VA — A Burke man reportedly armed with a gun, chainsaws, an axe, and a blowtorch was shot by Fairfax County police Sunday night.

The confrontation happened about 10:15 p.m. in the 9700 block of Church Way in Burke. Police said a Fairfax County officer discharged her firearm at a man outside his home. The man was taken to a local hospital in non-life threatening condition.

Crisis negotiators talked with the man before shots were fired, FOX DC reported. An officer fired two beanbag projectiles at the man before the officer discharged their firearm, striking the man in his lower extremities.

The officer who shot the resident has been placed on restricted duty pending the outcome of an internal investigation, police said.

Authorities have not yet identified the shooting victim, or said why police were first called to the residence.
