Hit-And-Run Driver Injures Woman, Kills Dog In Kings Park West Crash

BURKE, VA — Fairfax County Police officers detained a driver Monday night after he crashed into a pedestrian who was walking a dog on a sidewalk along Gainsborough Drive in the Kings Park West area of Fairfax County.

The pedestrian, an adult female, was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said Monday, shortly after 6:30 p.m. The dog was killed in the hit-and-run crash, NBC4 reported.

Police found the driver and the vehicle that crashed into the woman and dog on a nearby street, police said.

The vehicle clipped a sign outside the Kings Ridge Swim Club on Gainsborough Drive and then crashed into the woman and her dog, according to NBC4.

The woman, who is in her 50s, was taken to the hospital in "extremely critical condition," the report said. The dog, who died at the scene, was taken away by animal control officers.

After crashing into the woman and dog, the driver then left the scene and the started doing donuts in a parking lot near Robinson Secondary School, a few blocks away from the crash, NBC4 reported.

Detectives from FCPD’s Crash Reconstruction Unit are continuing to investigate the crash, police said.
