BURKE, VA — Republican Saundra Davis, a school board candidate in the 2023 election, launched her campaign for the 15th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates last Sunday.

“Fairfax County deserves leadership that listens, that solves problems, and that doesn’t shy away from doing the right thing-even when it’s hard,” Davis told a group of supporters gathered at Burke Lake Park. “I’m a 14-year Burke resident, a mom, a former elder care specialist, a community advocate, and someone who knows how to bring people together to get things done.”

Davis will face incumbent Del. Laura Jane Cohen (D) and independent candidate Joseph John Triolo in the Nov. 4 general election. This will be the first reelection campaign for Cohen, who defeated Republican Marcus Evans in the 2023 election.

In a campaign statement, Davis outlined her priorities if she is elected in November:

  • Eliminating the Car Tax – A burden on working families and an outdated policy that disproportionately affects Northern Virginians.
  • Restoring Educational Excellence - Davis is committed to removing politics from the classroom and restoring excellence, supporting teachers while ensuring parents have a voice.
  • Supporting Law Enforcement and Safe Communities – She will fight for the resources and respect that first responders need to keep Fairfax County safe.

Davis credited her experience in grassroots organizing, as helping her to understand the value of listening to the community and building coalitions across party lines.

“I’ve had the hard conversations. I’ve built relationships across party labels," she said. "And I know that most Virginians, no matter how they vote, want the same thing: safe neighborhoods, strong schools, and a government that respects their time and money."

Davis was one of nine candidates vying in 2023 for three at-large seats on the Fairfax County School Board. Kyle McDaniel, Ryan McElveen, and Ilryong Moon were the ultimate victors on election day.

The 15th District encompasses the Long Branch, Kings Park, Burke Centre, Burke and South Run areas of Fairfax county. The nonprofit Virginia Public Access Project describes the 15th District as "Strong Democratic."
