Suspect In Death Of Woman Found At Burke Lake Park Charged With Murder

A suspect in the death of a woman at Burke Lake Park was arrested in New Jersey and charged with second-degree murder, police said.

BURKE LAKE Park, VA — A suspect in the death of a woman at the Burke Lake Park campgrounds was taken into custody in Paterson, New Jersey, and now faces extradition back to Fairfax County, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Rami El Sayed was apprehended by the Paterson Police Department in New Jersey and now faces a second-degree murder charge in the death of Cara Abbruscato, 40, of Fairfax at Burke Lake Park, police said Monday.

Abbruscato's body was found inside a tent at the Burke Lake Park campgrounds on Saturday afternoon, with trauma to her upper body, according to police.

When they arrived at Burke Lake Park around 3:10 p.m. on Saturday, Fairfax County Fire and Rescue personnel declared Abbruscato dead inside the tent. The Chief Medical Examiner's office was expected to conduct an autopsy to confirm the cause and manner of death, according to police.

On Sunday, Fairfax County police said their detectives were seeking help from the public to find El Sayed, who was described as a person of interest.

Sayed reportedly stole Abbruscato's car and drove it to New Jersey, where automated license plate readers spotted her license plate as being connected to a felony. Police in Paterson pulled over El Sayed and arrested him, NBC4 reported.

A fellow camper at Burke Lake Park told NBC4 that Abbruscato and El Sayed had seemed to be in a romantic relationship.
