Water Rescues Reported Amid Flood Warning In Fairfax County
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue responded to at least two vehicles stuck in flooded roads Thursday afternoon.

ANNANDALE, VA — At least two water rescues were made as a flood warning was issued for much of Fairfax County Thursday afternoon, according to Fairfax County Fire and Rescue.
The fire department helped people out of cars in flooded roads in the 5000 block of Terrell Street in Annandale and 6200 block of Rolling Road in West Springfield. Units also responded to the 3700 block of Prosperity Avenue in Fairfax but found no occupants trapped.
Residents were urged to avoid these areas and "turn around, don't drown" when encountering a flooded road.

Much of Fairfax County is under a flood warning. The National Weather Service issued the warning for southwestern Fairfax County until 10:30 p.m. and central Fairfax County until 9:30 p.m. At 4:31 p.m. the Doppler radar detected heavy rain due to thunderstorms, with 1.5 inches to 2.5 inches of precipitation so far in southwestern Fairfax. In central Fairfax, between 1 to 1.5 inches of rain has fallen. Another 1 to 2 inches is possible in both areas.
Areas that could see flooding in Fairfax County are Centreville, Springfield, Fort Belvoir, Burke, Chantilly, Burke, Lorton, Franconia, Newington, West Springfield, Reston, Annandale, Fairfax, Fort Hunt, Vienna, Groveton, Falls Church, Huntington, Mantua, and Pimmit Hills.
