Animal Control Report: Dog Left Inside Car at Fair Lakes

Owner charged with inadequate animal care after leaving the dog inside with the windows shut.

The owner of a Chihuahua was charged after leaving the dog in a car with the windows closed in a Fair Lakes parking lot, according to Fairfax County Police.

Animal control officers responded to the 13000 block of Fair Lakes Shopping Center at 3 p.m. The Chihuahua appeared to be unharmed but the owner, a 21-year-old Fairfax man, was charged with inadequate animal care.

Fairfax County Animal Control Officers typically respond to dozens of reports of dogs locked in hot cars in parking lots during the summer. Even with the windows cracked, temperatures can quickly soar. Police encourage owners to leave their dogs at home on hot days.
