Centreville Resident Advances After Winning Virginia Senior Voice Competition

CENTREVILLE, VA — A Centreville resident will compete as a division finalist in the Music Teachers National Association senior voice division in December after winning the Virginia State Senior Voice Competition.

Ella Rose Reidway, a senior at Wakefield School in The Plains, has been studying voice for 11 years and is currently a student of Nancy MacArthur Smith.

Along with winning the MTNA state competition, Ella is a recipient of the 2021 Wakefield Upper School Theatre Award for Best Actress and was a Musical Theatre Semifinalist for the 2021 Hal Leonard Vocal Competition, qualifying for regionals.

She received honors in Musical Theatre recognition at the 2020 National Association of Teachers of Singing Competition and won third place for classical music in the 2020 MTNA Virginia Senior Vocal Competition.

Ella was also the recipient of the 2020 Wakefield School Upper School Music Award. She is an avid actor, singer and songwriter and hopes to become a music educator or music therapist.

The winner of the MTNA division competition in December will compete in the national finals. Division winners will be announced in mid-January.

The three-tiered MTNA competitions begin at the state level. Winners of each state competition advance to the division competition. Division winners then proceed to the national competition finals.

Founded in 1876, the Music Teachers National Association is a nonprofit organization composed of 17,000 independent and collegiate music teachers committed to advancing the value of music study and music making to society and to supporting the professionalism of music teachers.
