Fire Blotter: Improper Disposal of Smoking Materiels Causes Apartment Fire
Early morning fire at an apartment building just off of Centreville Farms Road.
Early Tuesday morning Fairfax County firefighters responded to a fire at a four-story garden apartment building, caused by improper disposal of smoking materiels.
"Fire was showing from a third floor balcony," said Dan Schmidt, a public information officer with the Fairfax County Fire Department. "Firefighters were able to get there very quickly and put the fire out on the balcony. There was a small balcony underneath that caught fire."
Schmidt said the damages were under $15,000. The fire, which started around 1:10 a.m. at 5142 Brittney Elyse Circle, was ruled accidental. There were no injuries and no one was displaced from their homes.
