Wildcats to Compete in Track & Field Regional Championships

Senior Mike Wright wins 200 meter dash.

At the Concorde District Track and Field Championships at Westfield High School, the following Wildcat athletes qualified for the upcoming regional championships. 

Senior Mike Wright won the 200 meter dash and placed second in the 400 meter dash, achieving the state championship qualifying time in both events.

Wright also ran a leg of the second place 4x400 meter relay team. Junior Maryn Wood placed second in the girls’ 400 meter dash. Junior Chase Heiner placed third in the boys’ 1600 meter run, as well as anchoring the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays which also qualified to move on, with the 4x800 reaching the state standard. Sophomore Seo Hee Im advanced to regionals with her fourth place finish in the long jump. 

Senior Rebecca Vinter placed fourth in the girls’ 800 meter run. Sophomore Young Bin Jin qualified to move on with sixth place finishes in the 110 meter hurdles, long jump and triple jump.

Sophomore Bobby Dunn advanced in the 3200 meter run and Michael Bishop qualified in the 400 meter dash, both with sixth place finishes. 

The state qualifying boys’ 4x800 was comprised of Calvin Jones, Bobby Dunn, Chan Young Lee and Chase Heiner. The 4x400 team was Mike Bishop, Calvin Jones, Mike Wright and Chase Heiner. 

Heiner has already achieved the State standard in the boys’ 800 meters and Maryn Wood has already qualified in the 200.

'Cats close regular season

Centreville closed out its regular season during May 11-12 with two invitational meets. 

Senior Rebecca Vinter and Junior Chase Heiner competed in the 800 meters at the prestigious Southern Track Classic. 

While Vinter put in a solid run against the elite field, Heiner was able to break his older brother’s school record in the boys’ 800 meter run. His new school record of 1:53.23 sets him nicely for this week’s Concorde District Championships.

The bulk of the Wildcat team participated in the TJ Penultimate Experience in Alexandria. 

Maryn Wood helped lead the lady Wildcats with a first place finish in the 200 meter dash, and second place in the 400 meter dash. 

Also capturing a first place finish was senior Isabella Medina, who won the girls’ 3200 meter run. Senior Mike Wright also scored a second place finish in the 200 meter dash and he finished third in the 100 meter sprint. 

Andrew Ridenour continued his success in the Long Jump with a second place finish of his own. 

Mike Mantis (triple jump), Young Bin Jin (110 hurdles), Bobby Dunn (1600), Sammy Belso (girls’ 300 meter hurdles) and the boys 4x100 all finished in fifth place in their respective races. 

Rounding out the scoring for Centreville, with a sixth place finish in the long jump, was sophomore Seo Hee Im.
