City officials want to amend Charlottesville's homestay ordinance—and its occupancy limits (c-ville.com) — Charlottesville officials are moving to tighten and extend homestay permits, raise fees, and cap occupancy at two people per bedroom, up to eight total, to improve safety and enforcement. The proposed ordinance would require proof of residency, affidavits, safety inspections, and new software-driven crackdowns on noncompliant short-term rentals, with Planning Commission review expected early next year.

Charlottesville City Council briefed on next set of affordable housing requests (c-ville.com) — Charlottesville officials are weighing millions in new affordable housing requests that could shape the next city budget and future development across town. From Kindlewood and Westhaven to Park Street and Carlton Mobile Home Park, council is tracking dozens of projects and deciding whether to boost its already sizable annual housing commitment.
   

3. Albemarle County students struggling with overcrowded schools while officials try to find a way forward (cvilletomorrow.org) — Albemarle County students are coping with crowded hallways, classroom trailers, and long treks between classes while county leaders debate whether to keep building small learning centers or commit roughly $200 million to a new high school. Local officials, parents, and students around Charlottesville describe safety worries, limited one-on-one instruction, and strained facilities as they press the School Board and Board of Supervisors to find data, funding, and consensus on long-delayed school construction.
   

4. CPD and ACPD post holiday public safety messages (cvillerightnow.com) — Charlottesville and Albemarle police are asking for residents’ help identifying suspects in recent larceny, shoplifting, and fraud cases and urging everyone to secure vehicles, packages, and firearms. Officers also warn that thefts rise during holiday travel and shopping, and they’re stressing sober driving and extra caution for pedestrians and drivers in busy commercial areas around the city.

Fluvanna Sheriffs investigating string of vehicle break-ins (cvillerightnow.com) — Fluvanna County deputies are looking for three suspects tied to overnight vehicle break-ins in the Villages at Nahor and Coves at Monticello, just outside Charlottesville. Investigators say a stolen white 2017 Hyundai Tucson was used in the crimes and are urging area residents to check vehicles, review security footage, and share any tips.
