The draft outlines future zoning changes, new parks and trails, and priorities for environmental protection, recreation, and cultural preservation that will shape growth in and around Christiansburg over the next decade.

2. Multiple vehicles catch fire at Meridian Waste in Christiansburg after electrical short, no injuries reported (wsls.com) — Loud booms many Christiansburg residents heard Wednesday morning came from multiple Meridian Waste trucks burning after an electrical short, not explosions. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, no injuries were reported, and while several vehicles were destroyed, the rest of the lot remained largely unaffected as smoke continued to rise from the scene.

Christiansburg sweeps Class 3 volleyball honors (wsls.com) — Christiansburg volleyball standout Ela Shepherd has been named Class 3 Player of the Year, and head coach Morgan Taylor earned Coach of the Year as the Blue Demons dominated the all-state list. The team’s 28-1 season included its first-ever state final appearance and multiple players earning first- and second-team all-state recognition.

4. Rutherford, Brenda G. (nrvnews.com) — Family and friends of Brenda G. Rutherford can pay their respects in Christiansburg on Thursday, December 18, with visitation at Horne Funeral Home on North Franklin Street followed by her funeral. She will be laid to rest at Belmont Community Cemetery on Dominion Drive, with many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren surviving her.
