Stafford Man Faces Assault And Battery Against Police And Public Intoxication Charges
Arlington County Police say a Stafford man challenged an officer to a fight and struck another officer who intervened in the head.

ARLINGTON, VA — A Stafford man was arrested for assault and battery after challenging an Arlington County Police officer to a fight and striking another in the head, according to the daily crime report.
Around 11:47 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were in area of 5th Street S. at S. Courthouse Road in the Penrose area responding to an unrelated call. As they attempted to resolve the situation they'd been called out for, a man approached them and kept trying to intervene.
When the officers began walking back to their cruiser, the man challenged one of them to a fight and ran up from behind. As the second officer tried to move the man away from the first officer, the suspect struck him in the head. The second officer received minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.

Police arrested Timothy Betts, 50, of Stafford, and charged him with assault and battery on police, obstruction of justice, and public intoxication. He is being held without bond.
