Firefighters Contain Small Gas Line Fire
A 2-inch gas line was struck near the intersection of N. Cleveland Street and 12th Street.
A few homes in the surrounding area were evacuated after a gas line was struck near N. Cleveland Street and 12th Street in Clarendon on Friday afternoon.
The Arlington Fire Department responded to the scene after receving reports of a gas odor in the area. Firefighters kept the gas ignited in order to contain the leak until Washington Gas could turn the gas supply off.
No property was damaged and no injuries were reported.

Lt. Ed Hughes of the Arlington Fire Department said a private contracting company was using heavy machinery to dig near the gas line and accidentally struck it.
"It's pretty minor," Hughes said. Hughes did not know when the gas supply would be turned back on.
