PRINCE WILLIAM COUNTY, VA — Authorities have closed their investigations into the armed robberies of several 7-Elevens across Prince William County. Police claimed that the man responsible for the robberies was shot and killed by a homeowner in Woodbridge last month.

On Monday morning, authorities announced that they were able to connect the deceased to robberies in Dale City and Dumfries. "Detectives with the Prince William County Police Department’s Violent Crimes Bureau, with assistance from our Federal partners at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, were able to connect the firearm found in possession of the deceased to a recent armed robbery at the 7-Eleven located on Dale Blvd in Woodbridge on July 16," the police department said.

During the July 16 incident, a man fired a single round into a display case before fleeing with money from the store's register. Authorities determined that the shell casing recovered from the scene of the robbery matched the gun that the deceased had in the shooting on Hoffman Drive.

Detectives believed that the man was also responsible for several other 7-Eleven robberies from around Prince William County, beginning in late June. Police said the man matched clothing descriptions and fit suspect descriptions in robberies of stores on Fraley Boulevard in Dumfries, Cloverdale Road in Dale City, and Darbydale Avenue in Dale City.

"Detectives became increasingly concerned over the robberies escalating after the suspect was found to have discharged a handgun during the two more recent incidents," authorities said on Monday. Investigators are still working to match the shell casing from the July 5 robbery in Dumfries to the suspect.

"At the time of the July 22 homicide, the deceased was wearing clothing that was also observed in the reported robberies," police said. "Following the investigations into this robbery series, all known evidence indicates the deceased was responsible for all five incidents."
