Dale City House Fire Sparked By Candle Displaces Family Of 20

Prince William County fire officials said the blaze broke out Friday inside a single-family home on Oust Lane.

DALE CITY, VA — A lit candle sparked a house fire in Prince William County that displaced a family of nearly two dozen people Friday, according to authorities and reports.

Prince William County fire officials said crews responded to a single-family home in the 6000 block of Oust Lane after receiving a call about the blaze. Crews quickly extinguished the flames, officials said, and located no trapped residents inside the home.

According to a Prince William Times report citing Assistant Fire Chief Matt Smolsky, 2o members of the same family lived in the home. All were home at the time of the blaze and made it out safely, Smolsky said.

The home sustained moderate damage, reports said. Investigators later determined the fire started when a lit candle ignited bedding material, DC News Now reported.

The American Red Cross is assisting the family, reports said.
