DALE CITY, VA — A 17-year-old boy was shot in Dale City on Monday, July 12. The boy, who has not been identified by name, later died of his injuries, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

Police responded to the shooting at 11 a.m. in the 4700 block of Still Place, near the Sharon Baucom Dale City Recreation Center.

When officers arrived on the scene, they found the 17-year-old victim suffering from gunshots wounds, police said. The officers performed CPR on the victim until rescue personnel arrived.

"A short time later, the juvenile died of his injuries," the police department said. The victim has not been identified, in accordance with a recent change in Virginia law.

The incident is now being investigated by the police department's homicide unit.

No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and detectives are looking to speak with anyone who can help determine the events leading to the shooting.

In a report, the police department said the incident does not appear to be random.
