4 WATCH Awards Presented To Little Theatre Of Alexandria For 2022/2022 Season

ALEXANDRIA, VA — After snagging the most nominations among local theatre groups, the Little Theatre of Alexandria won four awards at the 21st annual Washington Area Theatre Community Honors at the Birchmere in Alexandria Sunday.

Each year, WATCH presents awards recognizing outstanding artistic and technical achievements in community theater in the Washington, D.C. region. For this year's awards, WATCH drew its nominations from 98 productions — 38 musicals and 60 plays — from the combined 2020/2022 performance seasons.

Little Theatre of Alexandria had 52 nominations collectively for seven productions. The Alexandria group's four awards included: Outstanding Lead Actor in a Musical to Chuck Dluhy as D'Ysquith Family in "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder," Outstanding Sound Design in a Musical to David Correia in "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder," Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical to Maura Lacy as Alice Murphy in "Bright Star," and Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical to Noah Mutterperl as William Shakespeare in "Something Rotten!"

The Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical award was shared with Jennifer Redford of Reston Community Players, who played Desiree Armfeldt in "A Little Night Music."

Each of the 40 WATCH award categories had five nominees chosen from the top average scores of eight WATCH award judges. In some categories, more than five nominees were chosen due to score ties.

Little Theatre of Alexandria was founded in 1934 as a small play-reading group. Since then, it has put together over 450 productions and holds theater classes for different age groups and children's summer camps.

The group just wrapped up its latest production, "Lettice and Lovage," over the weekend. The next production will be "Mary Stuart" from April 22 to May 13. Stay tuned for an announcement about the 2023-2024 performance season at thelittletheatre.com.
