5 Things: Baseball, Health Care, D.C. United and Hot Jazz at St. Elmo's
A look at Thursday in the Del Ray area.

Here are 5 Things to get you through the day, or at least sweep your mind away from work for a few minutes (I’m not sure I get paid enough to carry you through the day).
Play ball! — The Alexandria Aces host the Silver Spring-Takoma Thunderbolts at 7 p.m. at Frank Mann Field in Four Mile Run Park. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children.
The Aces look to rebound from a 5-2 loss to the Vienna River Dogs on Wednesday night.

Adjunct issues — Del Ray resident Kevin Pace was featured in a Washington Post story earlier this week about how President Obama’s health-care law is tied to new caps on work hours for part-timers.
An adjunct professor at Northern Virginia Community College, Pace has his hours slashed by the state this spring to avoid a requirement that all full-time workers be offered health insurance.

“We work so hard for so little pay,” he told the Post. “You would think they would want to make an investment in society, pay the teachers back and give us health care.”
New D.C. United Stadium — Today, D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray and Major League Soccer club D.C. United are expected to announce a tentative agreement on a new stadium at Buzzard Point near Nationals Park.
If seen through, the new soccer-specific stadium would be just about a 25- to 35-minute bike ride from Del Ray and a shorter ride from Braddock Road Metro station. That means easier access to matches and other events at the venue like rock concerts.
Thursday Jazz — It’s Thursday, which means the Not-So Modern Jazz Band will be performing tonight at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub, located at 2300 Mount Vernon Ave. The band has performed continuously since 1983. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m.
Kids Rock — National Harbor is hosting kids’ band Milkshake for free concerts at 10 a.m. and noon at the Carousel at National Harbor. The harbor campus is located at 137 National Plaza, National Harbor, Md., on the Potomac River. For more information email info@nationalharbor.com or call 301-203-4170.
