ALEXANDRIA, VA — At the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria's animal shelter, some pets stay longer than others before finding homes. But the shelter is surprised no one has yet adopted Dash, a medium-sized dog with good leash and house manners.

Patch regularly features adoptable pets from the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. Dash has been at the animal shelter since last fall. His adoption fees have been covered by a sponsor.

Here's a head scratcher ... This beautiful brindle boy named Dash has been continuously looked over since last fall. While we know he'd give us a 5-star review for his stay (we're generous with pup cups), we know there's nothing better than an adoptive home. Here's what we know about Dash:

  • He's 5-years-old and around 45 pounds - a great medium size!
  • He's very smart. He knows sit, paw, touch, and other commands. He's clicker trained too.
  • Dash is undoubtedly the best leash walker. We sometimes have to remind him to look forward versus constantly checking in with his handler.
  • He loves to play with toys - squeaky, plush, ropes, whatever you got.
  • He has great house manners and is housetrained. He always has a clean kennel.
  • He is a volunteer favorite!
