Cheesetique Battles Mimolette Blockade on Fox News

The Sushi Bar isn't the only Del Ray restaurant receiving media attention these days.

Cheesetique owner Jill Erber was featured Monday on Fox Business News and on "The Fox Report with Shepard Smith" during segments about the Food and Drug Administration’s order to hold shipments of French cheese Mimolette.

The FDA instituted the blockade after declaring Mimolette had too many mites in its rind, which could cause allergies.

Erber, who carries Mimolette at the Del Ray and Shirlington Cheesetique locations, said many other cheeses—including “some of the most famous cheeses in the world”—have similar situations with mites. She expressed worry about what the Mimolette ban might eventually mean for other cheeses.

After obtaining some of the last Mimolette in the U.S., Erber has been giving away free pieces to people who post frowny photos on the shop’s Facebook page to protest the blockade.
