Del Ray's Best Decorated Homes And Holiday Card Displays Chosen In 2023

Judges' and people's choice winners have been named for the Del Ray Citizens Association's holiday decorating contest.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — Residents who went all out with their holiday decorating were recognized with awards from the Del Ray Citizens Association.

The citizens association held its annual Del Ray Holiday Decorating Contest. The contest accepted nominations of displays from Dec. 3 to 17, and voting for the contest was held from Dec. 18 to 25.

Award categories include Best Home Decorations, the Clark W. Griswold Holiday Lights Award, People's Choice Award, and Best Holiday Postcard.

Judge's choice awards for best decorated homes went to 107 Stewart Ave. and 3103 Russell Rd. in first place, 308 E Custis Ave. in second place, 41 E Bellefonte Ave. and 242 Burgess Ave. in third place, and 1 W Uhler Ave. and 2506 E Randolph Ave. as honorable mentions.

People's choice winners for best decorated homes were 107 Stewart Ave. in first place, 308 E Custis Ave. in second place, 242 Burgess Ave. in third place, and 14 E Custis Ave. as an honorable mention.

The best decorated holiday card award honors a Del Ray tradition where residents on several streets display giant holiday cards in their yards. The judge's choice awards went to 206 E Alexandria Ave. in first place, 900 Little Street in second place, 114 E Luray Ave. in third place, and 2404 E Randolph Ave. as an honorable mention.

The people's choice for best decorated holiday cards went to 225 Burgess Ave. in first place, 8A E Alexandria Ave. in second place, 900 Little Street in third place, and 202 E Luray Ave. and 410 E Nelson Ave. as honorable mentions.

The 107 Stewart Ave. property also picked up the Clark W. Griswold Holiday Lights Award "for most outstanding demonstration of brilliance, exuberance, and tackiness."

This year's judges were Del Ray resident Elisa Nebolsine, who judged the Clark W. Griswold Holiday Lights Award category; Washingtonian editor and Del Ray resident Andrew Beaujon, and retired Alexandria Sheriff Dana Lawhorne.

Residents can visit all the displays during the holiday season using the contest's map of nominees.
