The Evening Star Holding Louisiana Flood Relief Fundraiser

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- A fundraiser is planned this weekend in Del Ray at The Evening Star to help flood victims in Louisiana, where more than two feet of rain fell for 72 hours, starting Aug. 11.

You can help flood victims by stopping by the Front Porch of the Star (2000 Mt. Vernon Ave. in Del Ray) Saturday morning; you can leave a donation from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and while you're there, enjoy complimentary fresh beignets and coffee.

Here's a message from The Evening Star about the fundraiser:

"Please join us this Saturday morning at the Star and show your support for the good people of Louisiana affected by the recent floods. As you know, August's prolonged rainfall in southern parts of the state resulted in catastrophic flooding that submerged thousands of homes and businesses - and has left far too many folks with little to nothing left and nowhere to go. To compound the tragedy, many of the areas that flooded were not in "high flood risk areas" and therefore the majority of homeowners affected did not have flood insurance. Louisiana is near and dear to our hearts here at the Star. Consequently, we can't allow ourselves to simply stand by and hope for the best without at least pitching in to help out in some way. And for this, we need your help. So please come visit us on the Front Porch of the Star this Saturday morning between 9 and 1 for complimentary fresh beignets and coffee - and by all means make a donation of whatever you can. Even the smallest amount will go a long way for someone left with nothing. Thanks so much, and hope to see you here Saturday!"
