Flooding Possible As Thunderstorms, Showers Approach In NoVA, DC
The region is under a flood watch because of possible heavy rainfall Wednesday afternoon and evening.

WASHINGTON, DC — Residents should prepare for the potential of flash flooding as showers and thunderstorms affect the region Wednesday afternoon through evening, according to the National Weather Service.
A flood watch will take effect at 3 p.m. Wednesday and last through the evening. Forecasters expected widespread showers and thunderstorms later in the afternoon into the evening. Heavy rain was possible at times, with 1 to 3 inches within a few hours, according to the National Weather Service. Higher localized rainfall amounts were possible.
Excessive runoff of rainfall could result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. The National Weather Service urged residents in areas prone to flooding to prepare in case flooding happens.

Areas under the flood watch in Northern Virginia and surrounding areas included Arlington County, Falls Church, Alexandria, Loudoun County, Fairfax County, Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park, Fauquier County, Fredericksburg, Spotsylvania County and Stafford County. Other areas in the Washington region under the flood watch were the District of Columbia, Montgomery County and Prince George's County.
