Fundraiser Monday for Evening Star Bartender in Del Ray

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- Evening Star Cafe will hold a fundraiser Monday for longtime Evening Star bartender James Morrison, who was diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer in the spring, organizers announced Friday.

The event Monday night is scheduled for 7-9 p.m. at the restaurant, at 2000 Mt. Vernon Ave. in Del Ray, in Morrison's honor and will include a raffle, silent auction, food, drinks and live music by the Kevin Cordt Quintet.

Here's what Evening Star organizers are saying on their invitation for the fundraiser:

"Our beloved friend and longtime Evening Star bartender James Morrison was diagnosed with advanced stomach cancer this spring. For the past few months he has been quietly fighting it while spending time with and being cared for by his family. For twelve years, James has been part of the family here at the Star, and he's become a well known and much loved member of our Del Ray community. As such, we want to do everything possible to help him fight the good fight, get back on his feet and behind the bar once again - and we need everyone's help to make it happen. So please join us for a party in his honor this Monday evening at the Star from 7 until 9 - and give whatever you can, raise a glass to James and let's help him beat this thing! If you cannot make it this Monday, we ask that you please consider a donation to his GoFundMe page. James hasn't been able to work for some time now, and every little bit will surely help."
