Garden Center Planned For Former Retail Space In Del Ray
Del Ray Farmhouse Market & Garden would bring an outdoor garden center to the Del Ray neighborhood among Mount Vernon Avenue.
ALEXANDRIA, VA — After Del Ray Hardware kept a small business space open, the owner is planning to bring a garden center to the Del Ray neighborhood.
According to a special use permit application filed with the city, Del Ray Farmhouse Market & Garden is proposed at 1913 Mount Vernon Avenue. That is the former location of consignment boutique Bellies & Babies, which closed on Dec. 15, 2024.
The owner is Jason Portlance, who also owns Del Ray Hardware. The hardware store had opened at the start of 2024 under new ownership after the Executive Lock & Key Service owner retired.

The application says the outdoor garden center will have live plants, soils, lawn tools and a greenhouse. Proposed hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.
