Thursday: Holy Cow to Host 'Al's Steak House Pop-Up' Fundraiser
Event will benefit Del Ray restaurant that caught fire on reopening day Wednesday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA -- In response to the three-alarm fire that damaged Al’s Steak House last Wednesday on their grand reopening day, Holy Cow Del Ray, along with the Del Ray business community, will host a pop-up fundraiser to aid the Breeding family, the new owners of Al's.
On Thursday, July 14, Holy Cow will transform into Al’s Steak House Pop-up from 5:30 to 10 p.m. The fundraiser will feature favorites from the Al’s Steak House menu, with food prepared by celebrity Del Ray chefs under the guidance of Bo Severson, son of the late John "Big Al" Severson. All sales will go to the Breeding family to aid with rebuilding. Holy Cow is located at 2312 Mt. Vernon Ave.
For those who want to support this local family-owned business but cannot make it to the fundraiser, a GoFundMe account has been set up; FireFlies restaurant, 1501 Mt. Vernon Ave., is also accepting donations on behalf of Al's.

A Del Ray institution, Al's Steak House closed in December after the death of John Severson, who took over the shop from Al Martino, its namesake, in 1965. The Breeding family -- longtime customers of Al's Steak House -- bought their favorite restaurant, and worked with the Severson family to preserve the neighborhood landmark and its signature steak-and-cheese sandwiches.
