Little Theatre Of Alexandria Snags WATCH Award Nominations

ALEXANDRIA, VA — When the nominations for the 2022 Washington Area Theatre Community Honors Awards were announced on Sunday, the Little Theatre of Alexandria received the most nominations of the 27 community theater companies participating.

Each year, WATCH presents awards recognizing outstanding artistic and technical achievements in community theater in the Washington, D.C. region. For this year's awards, WATCH drew its nominations from 98 productions — 38 musicals and 60 plays — from the combined 2020/2022 performance seasons.

Little Theatre of Alexandria received 52 nominations collectively for seven productions. The nominated productions include "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder," "Blue Stockings," "Bright Star," "Design for Murder," "Moonlight and Magnolias," Something Rotten!" and "Tiny Tim's Christmas Carol." Of note, the performing arts organization has two nominations for best musical — "A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder" and "Something Rotten!"

Nominations were announced Sunday at the Birchmere, located at 3701 Mount Vernon Ave. in Alexandria. The 40 WATCH Award categories each include five nominees chosen by judges. In categories with score ties, more than five nominees may be present.

The WATCH Awards will be presented Sunday, March 19, at 7 p.m., during a ceremony at the Birchmere. Tickets are available for $20 via Ticketmaster or at the Birchmere box office.
