Outages, Hail Reported In Alexandria Amid Thunderstorm

Over 3,800 Dominion Energy customers were without power in Alexandria as thunderstorms moved through the area Wednesday.

ALEXANDRIA, VA — At least 3,800 Dominion Energy customers lost power and hail was reported as a severe thunderstorm impacted Alexandria Wednesday.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Alexandria and other nearby areas Wednesday afternoon. Forecasters expected some scattered storms in the region to be severe, bringing potential for large hail and damaging winds. The warning was canceled around 1:30 p.m.

Some residents reported hail sightings to Russ Adams of delrayvaweather.com. Adams himself observed pea-sized hail.

The storm also had an impact on power for some residents. According to Dominion Energy's outage map, over 3,500 lost power in areas of Taylor Run, Rosemont and Del Ray. Those outages were below 1,700 as of 4 p.m. In addition, over 200 lost power in the North Ridge area as well as over 250 in different areas of Old Town.
