Emergency Drill Underway on Metro's Yellow Line Sunday

WMATA says Yellow Line will reopen Sunday afternoon after emergency drill is completed.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA -- DC metro first responders will be conducting a full-scale training exercise Sunday from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on the elevated Metro track approaching the Pentagon station over the Potomac River.

There will be no service between the L'Enfant Plaza and Pentagon stations during the exercises. The Blue Line will be running, according to Metro.

The agencies and departments involved in the exercise include Metro Transit Police, Arlington County Fire, DC Fire and EMS, Alexandria Fire Department, US Park Police, US Park Service, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority Fire and Rescue and Prince George’s County Fire Department. Water rescue teams will also be involved since the drill is taking place on the bridge.

The exercise, which will take place on the elevated track approaching the Pentagon Station over the Potomac River, will simulate real-world conditions to test coordination and communication between on-scene responders, Metrorail operations staff, Metro Transit Police and support personnel, WMATA said in a news release.

The southbound right lane of the GW Parkway under the Metro Rail overpass at the 14th Street Bridge will be closed Sunday during the exercise, officials said.

Expect to see multi-jurisdictional emergency response activity in that area.
