Flood Warning Issued For DC, Parts Of NoVA, Some Outages Reported

ARLINGTON, VA — A severe thunderstorm brought a flood warning to DC and parts of Northern Virginia and some power outages Thursday afternoon. Outages are impacting an area of Arlington and McLean.

The flood warning applies to west central DC, Arlington County and Alexandria due to heavy rain from slow-moving thunderstorms. The National Weather Service reported high water on Columbia Pike near South Washington Boulevard.

The flood warning continues until 6:45 p.m. Thursday. Areas that could see flooding are Arlington, Alexandria, Rosslyn, Crystal City, Reagan National Airport, Nationals Park, Georgetown Ballston, Rock Creek, the White House, Cherrydale, Barcroft and the National Mall. The NWS reminds drivers to avoid driving through flooded roads.

Over 2,600 customers in the area of North Arlington and McLean near the Potomac River lost power, according to Dominion Energy's outage map. An additional 800 lost power in McLean north of Chain Bridge.
