  1. Yohannes Nessibu has been convicted of voluntary manslaughter and using a firearm in the commission of a felony, for the 2016 killing of Henok Yohannes, and was previously convicted of first-degree murder for the killing of Kedest Simeneh, which happened during the same incident. The shootings occurred when Nessibu and a few others, including Simeneh, went to buy marijuana from Henok Yohannes, and after a dispute over payment, Nessibu shot Yohannes twice in the back of the head and left with the same group, shooting Simeneh later that night. Nessibu faces up to life in prison and will be sentenced on Jun. 16. (WUSA9)
  2. Burke & Herbert Bank, based in Alexandria, has filed an application to list its common stock on the Nasdaq Capital Market. No date or price for the initial offering has been set yet. Burke & Herbert is the oldest continuously operating bank in the Washington, D.C. region doing business under its original name, and its move to the Nasdaq is part of the bank's strategy to increase trading volume, visibility, and access to capital for expansion. 3. Students in nearby Alexandria celebrated Read Across America Day with a special event organized by a high school junior named Fatima. Over a dozen students dressed up in costumes and read books to children at Charles Barrett Elementary School to encourage a love of reading. The event was organized in collaboration with teachers, including Fatima's former teacher, Stephanie Kessinger, and featured students from the Career and Technical Education and Health Occupations Students of America program.
