Tell Us: What Wildlife Have You Seen in Alexandria?

Foxes, owls, bald eagles and even a deer have been spotted in the city.

After spotting a beautiful osprey flying over Four Mile Run Park on Sunday, I reached out to ask Del Ray Patch Facebook followers about the interesting wildlife they’ve seen across Alexandria.

Below is a sampling of the responses. The biodiversity might surprise you:

Linda Fitzgerald Williams — A red fox trotting down the sidewalk in Rosemont.

Matthew Funkhouser — My yard is never dull. We've got everything from chipmunks, field mice and rabbits, to owls, litters of foxes, and one morning a deer. Then of course there's my bulldog Taurus who thinks it’s his job to chase every each animal away, only he's such a wimp he usually ends up running in the other direction. Haha.

MaryAnn Kirkpatrick — We have a hawk, and my husband has seen it grab a dove.

Katie Collins Briscoe — Sharp-shinned hawk on my back deck.

Renee Boudreau — Bald eagle on Sandford. Hawk daily on W. Del Ray. Owl on W. Del Ray being tormented during the day by several crows.

Glenn Eugster — I saw a young bald eagle, a coyote, and a "Ghost Bird" in and around Fort Ward Park.

Stacy Biddinger — It's been a few years, but I saw a wild turkey walking down the trail that winds behind the Del Ray Animal Hospital and lets out onto Route 1 at Custis.

Catherine Riccio — Blue heron over Braddock Heights.

Sarah Wholey — We saw a woodchuck running around between close to Dewitt and Duncan a couple of weeks ago!

Laura Fries — Saw a bald eagle flying over Russell Road.

Matt Humphrey — I saw a 14-year-old peering into the window of the future Sushi restaurant.
