Thunderstorms Possible With Isolated Severe Storms In NoVA, DC

As high temperatures remain in the 90s, possible showers and thunderstorms could slightly cool down temperatures Wednesday evening.

WASHINGTON, DC — A chance of thunderstorms will arrive in the region Wednesday afternoon, bringing some relief from the hot weather.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a chance of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the metropolitan areas and northeast Maryland. Isolated severe thunderstorms are possible, leading forecasters to issue a hazardous weather outlook. The greatest impact expected for severe storms is damaging winds.

The hazardous weather outlook applies to the District of Columbia, Prince William County, Manassas, Manassas Park, Fairfax County, Arlington County, Falls Church, Alexandria, Stafford County, Spotsylvania County, King George County, Loudoun County, other Virginia counties and some Maryland counties.

Residents should continue to monitor the forecast should a thunderstorm watch or warning, or other alerts be issued by the NWS Baltimore-Washington office.

The chance of storms does provide some relief from temperatures in the 90s seen in the last few days. The Weather Channel's hourly forecast for DC shows temperatures climbing to 90 in the afternoon. Then as scattered thunderstorms impact the area, temperatures gradually drop into the low 80s by the evening.

Nevertheless, high temperatures in the 90s will persist into the weekend, according to the NWS forecast for DC. Friday's temperature could reach up to 96 while the afternoon brings a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Showers and possible thunderstorms are again possible over the weekend. The high temperature for Sunday is just below 90 degrees.
