16. Police Search for Peeping Tom — A 26-year-old in the Rose Hill area reported she was in her bedroom when she saw a man looking through the window at her. A Fairfax County Police Department K-9 team and the helicopter assisted in searching for the man. No one was found. 

15. Future of Warwick Pool Hangs in the Balance — Alexandria City Manager Rashad Young is proposing to close Warwick Pool—one of two large outdoor pools in Alexandria—as part of his fiscal year 2014 city budget plan. The move would save the city $92,000 in general operating funds for FY14 and prevent the city from paying more in maintenance costs. 

14. Pizza Delivery Driver Robbed at Gunpoint — A pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint after making a delivery Saturday night, according to Natatia Bledsoe, Fredericksburg Police Department spokesperson. The victim reported he was walking back to his vehicle at 8:30 p.m. in the 300 block of Princess Anne St. when he was confronted by a male subject armed with a handgun. The victim complied with the offender’s demands to turn over his cash and wallet. The suspect has not been caught.

13. Foster Parents Needed in Northern Virginia for Displaced Children — In Virginia, at any given time, there are more than 5,000 children in the foster care system, waiting to be adopted. Of that number, more than 1,000 are in the Northern Virginia area, according to United Methodist Family Services.

11. West Heating Plant Sells for $19.5 Million — The General Services Administration's (GSA) West Heating Plant auction finally ended Wednesday, more than two weeks after the soft close date, with a winning bid of $19.5 million. The opening bid for the 2-acre lot and 20,000 square-foot building at 29th and K Streets, NW was $500,001.

10. Herndon Elementary Proposing Transition from French to Spanish Immersion — Herndon Elementary School is proposing switching from French to Spanish immersion due to the decreasing number of students opting to take part in the French program and a relatively high drop-out rate.

9. Mason District Station Officer Injured in Collision Remains in Stable Condition — A Fairfax County Police Officer involved in a head-on collision in Annandale remains hospitalized Monday at an area hospital. The officer is in stable condition but has a long road of recovery ahead of him. The other driver involved the accident died.

8. Arlington Public Schools Releases New Info on School Boundary Changes — As the region’s population continues to grow, Arlington Public Schools officials released the latest recommended school boundary changes as they continue the process of adjusting boundaries to accommodate a new elementary school in Williamsburg.

7. Reston Association Board Passes Wider No-Smoking Ban — The Reston Association Board of Directors voted Thursday to extend the no-smoking zone near Reston facilities and to install signage encouraging people to consider quitting. North Point Director Mike Collins had proposed the new rules in light of lobbying the last several years by local no-smoking advocates who wanted a ban on smoking on the bike paths. Collins said prior to last week's vote that he thought expanding the ban from 25 feet to 50 feet was a good compromise. Dissenting vote Cheryl Beamer says the 50-foot rule "is a way to feel superior."

6.  — Some residents in the Courthouse community of Arlington are continuing to voice concerns over security and, in some cases, the potential effect on their property values when a homeless center opens on two floors of an office building. Arlington County has applied, to itself, for a permit to use two of the seven floors in the Thomas Building at 2020 14th St. N. as a dormitory. The county bought the building under threat of condemnation in the fall.

5. Hundreds of Volunteers Catalogue 462 Chronically Homeless People in Fairfax County — More than 200 volunteers spread across Fairfax County last week and registered 462 chronically homeless people. Nearly a quarter of those registered were between 18 and 34 years old, and approximately half were employed.

4. Tysons Wal-Mart could Open by September 2013 — Tysons Corner’s new Wal-Mart could be open by August or September of this year. It will be located less than a mile northwest of Tysons Galleria.

3. Study of Extending Metro to Centreville a Possibility — Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-11th district) and Rep. Jim Moran (D-8th district) have introduced a bill in the U.S. House of Representatives that would authorize studying Metrorail's possible expansion of the orange line into Centreville. The Northern Virginia Metrorail Extension Act (H.R. 907), also proposes studying the possibility of extending the yellow line along the Route One corridor and the blue line along the I-95 corridor to Woodbridge. 

2. Ammunition Seized From Home of Police Shooting Suspect — Local law enforcement confiscated bullets, a loaded magazine and electronics from the home of Kashif Bashir, the Woodbridge man accused of shooting Alexandria Police Officer Peter Laboy last week during a traffic stop, according to court documents. 

1. Ashburn Teacher: I Did Not Drink On Campus — The Broad Run High School driving instructor who was charged Monday with being drunk in public at the school says he did not drink any alcohol on school grounds. Michael L. Hitzges, 47, of Ashburn, a biology teacher and driver education instructor, faces charges of drunk in public, at the school, after someone alerted the school resource officer assigned to Broad Run.
