It may be the dog days of summer, but there’s still plenty going on in the Del Ray area and the region.
Del Ray Patch editors highlight where you need to be and what you need to see this week.
Catch the Aces — The Alexandria Aces are having their best season ever with a 21-14 record entering Monday. The team, which plays in the Cal Ripken League and consists of college players from around the country, plays its home games a Frank Mann Field behind Cora Kelly School (3600 Commonwealth Ave.).

You have three chances to see the Aces at home this week—Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. First pitch for each game is at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 6-12. Children under 6 are free.
Get Involved at Duncan Library — The Friends of Duncan Library have their monthly meeting scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday in the branch’s meeting room. Learn how you can become more active in the programs and events at Del Ray’s library, located at 2501 Commonwealth Ave.

Tatiana Baquero — The Colombian folk and pop singer is scheduled for a two-hour set at St. Elmo’s Coffee Pub (2300 Mount Vernon Avenue) beginning at 8 p.m. Friday.
According to St. Elmo’s events calendar, “Her lyrics tell stories about love, family, freedom, and passion for music.”
The Good Doctor — Dr. John is performing Wednesday night at The Birchmere. Tickets are $45 to see the 72-year-old New Orleans boogie and blues pianist, whose 2012 album "Locked Down" was produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys.
Hail to the Redskins! — NFL season is fast approaching. The first Redskins training session open to the public and free of charge happens at 3:20 p.m. Thursday at the Bon Secours Training Center in Richmond. Gates open at 9 a.m. and close at 5 p.m.
If you miss them on Thursday, the Skins practice almost daily from Thursday throughout July and most of August. Fans are encouraged to visit the Redskins website for up-to-the-minute information. There are no bleachers on-site and fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on during practice. A list of available parking lots can be found at the Redskins’ training camp page.
