2 Fairfax Men Cited For Assaulting Police Officers Over The Weekend

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — City of Fairfax Police arrested two Fairfax men for assaulting a law enforcement officer in two separate incidents over the weekend, according to authorities.

Around 4:50 p.m. on Saturday, officers were called to the Wawa at 9700 Blvd. for the report of a man harassing customers.

The officers located the suspect nearby and placed him under arrest. During the arrest, the man kicked an officer, according to the incident report. No other injuries were reported.

The suspect, identified as 34-year-old Raymond Braxton of Fairfax, was taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with driving under the influence, assault on law enforcement and refusal to take a blood/breath test, according to police. Braxton was then held without bond.

On Sunday, around 4:51 p.m., an officer on patrol in the Fairfax Boulevard and Chain Bridge Road area conducted a traffic stop after spotting a vehicle moving erratically, according to police.

During the investigation, the driver aggressively opened his car door and struck an officer in the leg, according to the incident report. No other injuries were reported. The officers also noted that the man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol.

Officers arrested 54-year-old Jon Bucklaw of Fairfax and took him to the adult detention center, where he was charged with DUI, assault on law enforcement, and refusal to take a blood/breath test, according to police.

Braxton was arraigned in Fairfax County General District on Monday morning and has a bond hearing scheduled for Tuesday morning, according to court records. A preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 22.

Bucklaw had a bond hearing set for Tuesday morning in Fairfax County General District Court, which was continued to Friday morning, according to court records. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Sept. 23.

The assault on a police offer charges in both of these cases are Class 6 felonies, which carry a potential penalty of imprisonment for one to five years, or up to 12 months in jail, along with a potential fine of up to $2,500, according to Virginia law.

Each of the disorderly conduct and DUI charges are Class 1 misdemeanors, which are punishable by up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $2,500, under the Code of Virginia.

The refusal to take a blood/breath test is considered a civil violation, similar to a speeding ticket, which is punished by a fine, according to Virginia law.
