What's Open, Closed For Christmas 2025 In Fairfax City
The Christmas holiday will prompt closures around Fairfax City, with many closures starting on Wednesday.
FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Christmas falls on Thursday, Dec. 25 this year, bringing a holiday break for students and employees.
Government offices, schools and some businesses will close for the holiday observance. Many government offices and services will also be closed on Thursday, with some closing early on Wednesday.
Here are all the openings and closings to know around Fairfax City for Christmas on Thursday.

Fairfax City government offices: All city government offices will close at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and will be closed all day on Thursday, Dec. 25.
Fairfax County government offices: Closed on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25.

Fairfax County Public Schools: Students will have Winter Break from Dec. 22 to Jan. 2, 2026, with schools and offices closed on Dec. 25.
ABC Stores: Virginia ABC stores will close at 6 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.
Courts: Fairfax County courts are closed Dec. 24 to 26.
Community centers: Fairfax County Neighborhood and Community Services locations will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25, including community centers, senior centers and teen centers. Regular operations resume on Dec. 26.
Department of Motor Vehicles: DMV Select in Fairfax City Hall will be closed all day on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25. Virginia DMV locations will close at noon on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25 and 26.
Fairfax Connector: Buses will run on a Sunday schedule on Dec. 25. The only routes that operate on Sunday schedules are 101, 109, 151, 152, 161, 162, 171, 310, 321, 322, 371, 401, 402, 423, 463, 467, 558, 559, 574, 605, 615, 630, 642, 651, 662, 672, 721, 803, 901, 921, 924, 937, 950, 952, 954, 983, RIBS 1, RIBS 2, RIBS 3, RIBS 4 and RIBS 5. There are no announced changes for Dec. 24.
Libraries: Fairfax County Public Library locations will be closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Historic Blenheim, as well as the Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center, will be closed all day on Wednesday, Dec. 24 and Thursday, Dec. 25.
CUE Bus: Regular service will end at 6:01 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 24. There will be no CUE Bus service on Thursday, Dec. 25.
Metro: Dec. 24 will have a regular weekday schedule from 5 a.m. to midnight. Dec. 25 will bring a reduced Sunday service schedule to Metrorail from 6 a.m. to midnight.
Park authority: Historic sites, visitor centers, nature centers and drop-in day care are closed on Dec. 24 and 25.
Post offices: Closed on Dec. 25.
Recreation centers: Fairfax County rec centers are open from 5 a.m. to noon on Dec. 24 and are closed on Dec. 25.
Trash and recycling: Regular service for Fairfax City residents was be offered on Wednesday, Dec. 24. Refuse and recycling in Fairfax City will not be collected on Dec. 25. Thursday and Frday routes will be collected on Friday, Dec. 26. Fairfax County collection customers, there are no collections on Dec. 25. If you have a private trash collector, check with them for any schedule changes.
Trash and recycling centers: The I-66 Transfer Station and the I-95 Landfill Complex will close at 1 p.m. on Dec. 24 and be closed on Dec. 25.
