2 Residents Escape Mantua House Fire After Smoke Alarm Sounds
Fairfax County firefighters said the fire, which started in the garage, forced the residents to find temporary shelter.

FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA — Two residents safely escaped a house fire in Mantua after they were alerted by their smoke alarm, Fairfax County firefighters said.
On Tuesday, just before 2 a.m., the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department and the City of Fairfax Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 3200 block of Barbara Lane in the Mantua area of Fairfax County.
Firefighters said when they arrived, they saw a two-story, single-family home with fire showing from the attached garage.

Crews said they worked quickly to extinguish the bulk of the fire within 10 minutes of arriving on scene.
Firefighters said two residents were home at the time of the fire and were alerted to the fire when the smoke alarms sounded. The homeowners evacuated and called 911.

Fire investigators determined that the fire was accidental and started in the garage.
"The cause was an engine compartment fire, which spread to the structure," firefighters said in a news release.
Firefighters said the two residents were displaced by the fire; however, they declined any assistance from the Red Cross.
According to firefighters, the fire caused about $182,500 in damages. The contents loss also reflects the vehicle involved.
