Alexandria Assistant Police Chief Named New Chief In Fairfax City
An assistant police chief with the Alexandria City Police Department has been hired to lead the City of Fairfax Police Department.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — Alexandria City Assistant Police Chief Raul Pedroso has been hired to serve as the City of Fairfax's new chief of police, according to a release.
“Being selected to lead the City of Fairfax Police Department is a great honor,” Pedroso said. “I am excited to get to know agency staff and to meet the city’s residents and business owners. I look forward to continuing the department’s tradition of excellent community service."
Pedroso will assume his new role on Aug. 11, taking the reins from Capt. Natalie Hinesley, who was serving as an interim chief following the retirement of former Chief Erin Schaible earlier this year.

“The pool of applicants was very deep, and we conducted a very robust review and selection process,” City Manager Bryan Foster. "Raul rose to the top and was selected for his leadership qualities, his infectious energy, and his commitment to fairness and transparency."
With 32 years of law enforcement experience under his belt, Pedroso began his career in Coral Gables, Florida, where he went from a patrol officer to leading all major areas of policing. This included 19 years at the executive and senior leadership levels.

Pedroso holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Florida and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Florida International University. He is also a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
