Arrest Made in June Hit and Run That Sent Victim Flying 50 Feet Into Parked Car

A Fairfax man was arrested in connection with a June hit and run that threw Mohammad Jabour 50 feet into a parked car at Fairfax Boulevard and Warwick Avenue.

Police released surveillance images of the vehicle suspected in the hit and run in August. The new evidence and media attention raised the interest of the community, said Sgt. Joe Johnson of the City of Fairfax Police Department.

Thanks to tips from the public, police identified the driver as Leon Andrew D. Oliveira, 35, of Barrick Street.

Oliveira was charged with felony hit and run and arrested when he met with officers at the police station on Nov. 28. He was transported to the Adult Detention Center and bail was set at $2,500.

Jabour, 33, was struck by an SUV while walking on the sidewalk on June 15. He remained in a coma for at least a month after the incident. 

Now Jabour is doing a little better and uses a wheelchair, Johnson said. He'll still have to undergo a long treatment and recuperation process.
