The Best Ways to Learn About Senior Living at Woodleigh Chase

Ellen and Kevin McCarthy attended several events at Woodleigh Chase before moving to the community

Woodleigh Chase, an Erickson Senior Living community in Fairfax, Va., offers plenty of ways to learn more about its vibrant lifestyle, helping prospective residents find the perfect community.

"Doing your research and finding a senior living option that fits your goals for retirement is crucial," says Sales Counselor Laura DeSantis. "We want to give people all the information they need to make their plans."

During their decision-making process, residents Ellen and Kevin McCarthy attended Woodleigh Chase luncheons, social events, and educational seminars. They also joined the Priority List, which offers members the right of first refusal on desired homes, exclusive invites to informational and social events, and updates on community happenings.

"While we were on the Priority List, we attended various events that focused on topics like dining or downsizing. These events really kept our interest," Kevin explains. "We also went to several luncheons and social gatherings where we met fellow Priority List members, reservists, and even the familiar faces of people we know from the area."

Since each situation is unique, Woodleigh Chase offers a personalized approach for those exploring their senior living options. The popular informational luncheons provide a relaxed environment to experience the community in a group setting. Attendees enjoy the opportunity to tour amenities and a variety of living spaces while enjoying a delicious meal and mingling with current and prospective residents.

Another great way to learn more about the community is a personal appointment, where you can address specific financial information and tour floor plans that interest you.

Woodleigh Chase sales team members, like DeSantis, are knowledgeable about community life and the move-in process. They serve as trusted experts for future residents, discussing everything from pricing and floor plans to amenities and downsizing. "When you come in for the first time, we want to find out what's important to you and what your priorities are," notes DeSantis. "Scheduling a personal appointment is a great way to have your questions answered one-on-one."

Taking their time

Ellen and Kevin visited the campus often, appreciating the relaxed pace of getting to know the community and everything it has to offer.

"Having time to explore the community on your own and engage in candid conversations with residents provides a true understanding of what daily life is like, which is invaluable. For instance, guests enjoy the opportunity to experience our restaurants and sample the food. They can also explore the various groups and clubs to get a sense of the different opportunities that are available on campus," says DeSantis.

"Whenever we attended an event or had an appointment with a member of the sales team, we never felt pressured," says Kevin. "They understood the process. We went through all the potential 'what-if' scenarios, and they had answers to all our questions. That gave us the confidence we needed and made us feel comfortable when we were ready to make a decision."

'The right choice'

In 2024, Ellen and Kevin moved to Woodleigh Chase from a 3,000-square-foot house in Haymarket, Va., and they say they couldn't be happier with their decision.

"It has worked out really well for us. We are happy and feel like we made the right choice," says Kevin.

Since moving to Woodleigh Chase, the couple has embraced an active lifestyle. Together, they volunteer as resident ambassadors. Ellen also visits the fitness center, sings with the community chorus, joined the Women's Wednesday Wine group, and volunteers to tutor employees who want to improve their English skills. Kevin has joined a men's morning coffee club as well as a few sports groups.

"We enjoy eating in the restaurants with friends," says Ellen. "One of my favorite things about living here is the dining experience. Afterwards, people gather to chat and socialize. One of the biggest benefits of living at Woodleigh Chase is the abundance of social opportunities."
