Children's Science Center Lab Marks Anniversary In Fairfax

Just in time for its fourth anniversary, the Children's Science Center Lab at Fair Oaks Mall showcased a couple of new exhibits.

FAIRFAX, VA—Just in time for its fourth anniversary this past weekend, June 15, the Children’s Science Center Lab at Fair Oaks Mall (11750 Fair Oaks Mall) showcased a couple of new exhibits courtesy of the Philip L. Graham Fund.

  • The Air Rockets exhibit allows visitors to experiment with varying degrees of air pressure to achieve different results with each launch of their rocket.
  • Pixel Pegs is a beautiful and highly-interactive exhibit in the Discovery Zone that can be linked together to form colorful, artistic displays.

The Children's Science Center is also partnering with the Audubon Naturalist Society this summer for its 2019 Citizen Scientist Project: Creek Critters teaches users how to find and identify small organisms—or critters—that live in freshwater streams and then generate stream health reports based on what they find. Stop by your local stream and take a selfie, show it to a team member at the Lab, and receive a free net to help with your Citizen Scientist stream report.

The Lab also is hosting an XSTREAM Summer of Science, with activities that tie into the Citizen Scientist Project. Join a free Stream Walk at Loudoun Water, test the new XSTREAM Chemistry experiment at the Experiment Bar, dive into a scavenger hunt, celebrate Shark Week, and more.
