Winner Named In 11th House District Firehouse Primary

More than 1,100 votes were cast during Tuesday's Democratic firehouse primary in the 11th House District.

FAIRFAX, VA — Gretchen M. Bulova won Tuesday's Democratic Firehouse Primary and will represent her party in the Jan. 13 special election, which will decide who will fill the 11th District seat in the Virginia House of Delegates.

Bulova garnered 567 (47.73 percent) of the 1,188 votes cast on Tuesday, defeating fellow Democrats Vanessa Cárdenas, So Lim, Douglas Shuster and Denver Supinger. Here at the unofficial results from the Fairfax City Democrats:

The 11th District seat became vacant when Bulova's husband, Del. David Bulova (D-11th), stepped down to become Governor-Elect Abigail Spanberger's nominee as Virginia's next secretary of natural and historic resources.

“We want to thank all of the candidates who threw their hats in the ring to be the next delegate from the 11th District. We appreciate the voters who came on short notice to cast their ballot,” said 11th HD District Chair Susan Weltz, in a release. “We must now unite behind our Democratic nominee, Gretchen Bulova, and get her elected on January 13th to represent us in Richmond.”

11th District member Penelope Rood also thanked the many volunteers who worked at the polls of Tuesday.

Gretchen Bulova will face the winner of the Republican Party of Virginia's special party canvass.

Party members cast ballots from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, at Fairfax County Republican Committee Headquarters, 4246 Chain Bridge Road in Fairfax. The results will also be added to this story once they are released.
