City Of Fairfax Theatre Company Nominated For 7 WATCH Awards

Two productions from the City of Fairfax Theatre Company received a total of seven WATCH Award nominations for 2020/2022 performances.

FAIRFAX CITY, VA — When the nominations for the 2022 Washington Area Theatre Community Honors (WATCH) Awards were announced on Sunday, the City of Fairfax Theatre Company received a total of seven nominations for two of its productions.

The Providence Players of Fairfax, which performs at the Providence Community Center in the Falls Church area of the county, received a total of six nominations for its productions of three plays.

Each year, WATCH presents awards recognizing outstanding artistic and technical achievements in community theater in the Washington, D.C. region.

For this year's awards, WATCH drew its nominations from 98 productions — 38 musicals and 60 plays — from the combined 2020/2022 performance seasons. A list of all the nominations is available online.

The WATCH Awards will be presented Sunday, March 19, at 7 p.m., during a ceremony at the Birchmere, which is located at 3701 Mount Vernon Ave. in Alexandria. Tickets are available for $20 via Ticketmaster or at the Birchmere box office.

The City of Fairfax Theatre Company's productions of "Shrek the Musical" and the play "True West" were recognized with WATCH Award nominations:

  • Outstanding Featured Actor in a Musical – John Kownacki as “Lord Farquaad” – Shrek the Musical
  • Outstanding Hair Design in a Musical – Bridget Tunstall – "Shrek the Musical"
  • Outstanding Lead Actress in a Musical – Sara Watson as “Fiona” – "Shrek the Musical"
  • Outstanding Makeup Design in a Musical – Mary-Frances Dini – "Shrek the Musical"
  • Outstanding Lead Actor in a Play – Christopher Andersen as “Lee” – "True West"
  • Outstanding Properties in a Play – Luke Rahman – "True West"
  • Outstanding Stage Combat Choreography – Casey Kaleba – "True West"

The Providence Players of Fairfax's productions of "Enchanted April," "November," and "Playing Juliet and Casting Othello" received a total of six WATCH Award nominations:

  • Outstanding Set Painting in a Play – Ingrid David, Susan Kaplan, & Tina Hodge Thronson – "Enchanted April"
  • Outstanding Sound Design in a Play – Christopher Crockett – "Enchanted April"
  • Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play – Matthew Randall as “Archer Brown” – "November"
  • Outstanding Set Construction in a Play – John Coscia – "November"
  • Outstanding Set Decoration in a Play – Ali Zaikouk – "November"
  • Outstanding Featured Actor in a Play – Mack Leamon as “Jimmy” – "Playing Juliet and Casting Othello"
