Escape Heat In Fairfax City; Trash Pickup Delayed
City of Fairfax public buildings are available as cooling locations during dangerously high heat.

The National Weather Service is forecasting high heat in our region.
Many public buildings may serve as cooling locations during high heat weather, including libraries and municipal facilities, such as:

- City of Fairfax Regional Library is open daily (10360 North St., 703-293-6227)
- Monday - Wednesday: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Thursday- Sunday: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Fairfax City Hall is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays (10455 Armstrong St., Fairfax, 703-385-7800)
- Green Acres Center is open 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekends (4011 Sideburn Rd., 703-273-6090)
- Fairfax Museum and Visitor Center is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily (10209 Main St., 703-385-8414)
- Historic Blenheim and Civil War Interpretive Center is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday (3610 Blenheim Blvd., 703-591-0560)
- Stacy C. Sherwood Community Center is open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays (3740 Blenheim Blvd., 703-385-1695)

The Heat Index is a measure of how hot it really feels when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature. As an example, if the air temperature is 92°F and the relative humidity is 65 percent, the heat index — how hot it feels — is 108°F.
A few tips from the National Weather Service:
Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur, and overnight conditions will remain warm and humid so continue to find ways to stay cool and hydrated.
